For the past 43 years, Ahmed has been working with the government and in the banking, financial and commerce industry where he has gained extensive experience in the field of Accounting, Finance, Investment Banking and other related fields.For the past 35 years he worked in various senior managerial positions in various Countries-U. K, Srilanka, Maldives and Kingdom of Bahrain.
Ahmed was employed as the Head of Investment Administration at Kuwait Finance House, Bahrain from 2008 to 2018. He has efficiently administered an Investment Portfolio of US$ 1.75 Billion and is the liaison for the Regulators, Compliance, Anti Financial Crime and Audit (External, Internal and Sharia) teams.
He started his professional career in 1977 at KPMG where he was heading the Audit team andwas the head of their Maldives branch. In his capacity as the Head of the audit team, he was responsible for the internal control reviews and other audit functions.He has also conducted various feasibility studies for clients and has prepared business plans, provided advise on capital and debt restructuring, internal control systems and few others.
Having worked in UK as a Management Accountant for 8 years he has been responsible for the preparation of monthly management accounts, budgets, product profitability statements, and project and capital expenditure evaluation.
During his 15 years stint with the Ministry of Finance & National Economy – Bahrain he has conducted financial analysis for major Investee Companies Management and Financial accounts like ALBA, BAPCO, Gulf Air, ASRY, NBB, Batelco, GPIC, etc. where his focus has been on Private and Public Equity Investments. In addition, he has analyzed business plans and prepared budget proposals.
In 2003, he joined the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) as a Senior lecturer where his main areas of instructing were in Financial Accounting, Financial Statement Analysis (Financial Ratios), Budgetary Preparation and Control, Finance for Non Finance Managers, Evaluation of Company Performance, Management Accounting, Understanding Financial Statements etc.As a part time lecturer, hehas deliveredlectures for the CPA, CMA, CFA, University of Wales programs, etc. He has conducted programs at KIA (Kuwait), Saudi Aramco and at the Higher Institute of Banking in Sudan.
He has also worked as an Investment Officer for a very brief period where his key responsibilities included consolidation of financial statements, introducing budgetary controls, providing advice on capital expenditure, conducting financial analysis for business decisions.
Ahmed was a part-time lecturer for the University of Bangor at BIBF until 2020.
